The 2019 Porsche Cayenne S is a great example of Porsche turning a large family SUV into something that behaves remarkably like a sports car. Its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 produces 324kW and 550Nm, enough to propel the roughly two-tonne SUV from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.2 seconds, or just 4.9 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono Package. Interestingly, the engine is closely related to the unit used in the Audi RS4, giving the Cayenne S some serious performance credentials beneath its practical exterior.

One of the most unusual technologies available on the third-generation Cayenne was rear-axle steering, which was offered for the first time on the model. At lower speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, effectively shortening the wheelbase and making the large SUV easier to manoeuvre and park, at higher speeds, they turn in the same direction to improve stability.
